Kids and Musical Instruments

One of the things you will notice as your child grows from being a little toddler to an older kid (aside from the obvious that they are growing up!) is that not only does he or she form into their own unique personality, but their likes and interests become unique too. Simple and basic interests, which are universal, such as riding a bike, playing with dolls and action figures, playing video games, and the likes, tend to fade away, and unique hobbies and interests take over.
An important rule to keep in mind is that even though we as parents do not always agree and like our growing child's interests and ambitions, fighting them is not always advisable. Granted, this is not to say that you should give your child whatever they so desire, and definitely not allow them to stray off the beaten path and expose them to violence, immorality and non positive outlets. On the contrary, this is where you should kick in your authority as a parent. Children also tend to need and want authority and structure. With that said, if your child desires something positive or even just neutral, but it is something that you or your spouse dislike or just have no interest in, preventing your child from pursuing what they feel is fun or important is just not right and can at times have a negative effect on your child.
Take for example musical instruments. Although most parents are well aware of the benefits a child can have by learning to play an instrument, some parents refuse to give their child the opportunity to learn and play an instrument because they personally do not appreciate musical instruments or music in general. This is not only unfair for the child, but it can also have a long lasting negative effect to the child. The child will wonder why he or she can't have what is considered to be a positive outlet, thereby causing the child to become upset and obnoxious. It can further the outcome by causing the child to look for other, not-to-positive outlets, which will then further 'snowball' down the hill causing a deterioration in your child's self esteem and in their academic studies and in behavioral issues.
If you see that your child is passionate about learning and playing music, do not prevent it from them. Instead, encourage them and help them fulfill their goals and ambitions. You will be pleasantly surprised how much happier and easy going your child will be in all areas!

Kids Musical Instruments

Many of us parents are aware of the great benefits that our children can have by giving them the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument. Aside from the enjoyment, positive entertainment and many hours of fun, we know that when our children learn to play musical instruments they gain a feeling of reaching goals, a boost in self-esteem, and the sense of 'practice makes perfect', a great lesson to learn for life.
Unfortunately, at times children fail to reach their musical goals and aspirations and more often than not it is not due to their lack of will and lack of practice, but more because of the fact that the instruments they are playing with are not in synch with their specific needs.
To give you an example, let us take a child who is nine or ten years old and wants to learn how to play a guitar. If you get the child a fake toy guitar, without having any realness to it, there is no way this child will ever learn how to play 'the real thing'. Now, if you get your child a 'real' guitar, that will not do the trick either because the size of a real instrument and the complexity of it will be too much to handle for the young child or for the beginner. Think of it as learning how to drive a car; a go-cart will never teach you what it means to drive in a real automobile in real roads, and learning how to drive a big rig truck without having a regular driving license first would be too difficult and overwhelming.
Enter musical instruments for kids. If you shop around, you will find that there are instruments which are 'real', meaning that they are made with the same material as what the real, expensive, professional instruments are made of, but they are manufactured with the young musician in mind. They are designed to the size of children, thereby not being too big and heavy. These instruments are also designed to be as simple as possible, without compromising on quality and performance of the instruments, so that the instrument is not overwhelming and complex.
As a music teacher myself, I can tell you from my own experience that for your child to really succeed in their musical goals, getting your child 'REAL', 'KIDS' instruments is the (only!) way to go. Best of all, these type of instruments are cheaper than the real instruments that are usually used by adults.

Kids Summer Entertainment

Yup. Its summer all right, but that does not mean that everyday in the summer will be a great day for the outdoors. Rain, sun showers, and the like will keep you and your kids indoors no matter what the calender indicates! So instead of panicking when those no-so-summery summer days come about how to keep your kids(and yourself!) entertained and sane, think ahead and prepare now!
Make a list of activities your kids enjoy using and playing with, such as games, coloring books, arts n' crafts, etc. Have them ready somewhere in your house so when that rainy day comes, you will ready! Better yet, how about entertaining them with something that might be new for them, and definitely exciting; a musical instrument! Musical instruments, such as a keyboard, guitar or drum set can provide hours of exciting, entertaining, captivating and positive boosting activity for your child. You wont regret it!

Music and Moods

Had a bad day? Are you feeling down or just plain bored?  Music has the ability to uplift and change your mood.  How many times have you turned on music and found yourself swaying to the beat, while a smile begins to form at the corner of your lips. I remember using my drumset and piano as a mood booster as a child and teen. Actually, come to think of  it, I do that now too!  Playing music was and continues to be a way to connect and have fun with friends. Music creates happiness and excitement in your life, so pick that instrument you've always meant to learn how to play ( www.kidzbeats.com is a GREAT place to start! ), whether it be a guitar, drum, or bongo, and start playing today! Rock On!
